Hollywood Already Lost my Eight Bucks

June 25th, 2007 by Connor

I just checked out the IMDB page for Rush Hour 3 and saw that Roman Polanski has a role in it.
So it looks like I won’t be seeing this film.  Even though the trailer shows him getting knocked out at the end, which, I have to admit I’d be willing to pay good money to see, Rather is still giving money to a convicted child molester.

Now, granted, Hollywood exists in a moral vacuum. That doesn’t mean I have to support it. What happened to the good old days when actors stood up for what was right? I recently heard a story about John Wayne and Robert Ryan.  Ryan was a committed leftist back when most of Hollywood was conservative.  And this is during the days of the HUAC hearings.

Well, Ryan went on the radio and made a big speech challenging HUAC for their activities. It was pretty hot stuff.  So, he drives home a little worried and there in his driveway is John Wayne holding a rifle.  The Duke comes over and says he heard the speech on the radio and that he figured Ryan could use a little help to make sure he got in his house safe.  You know that old line about “I may not agree with what you say, but I’ll fight for your right to say it:”  CLEAR SHINING EXAMPLE!

But I guess I missed that part of the constitution that gave people the right to commit statutory rape on 13 year olds.  Polanski’s no hero and you don’t see me sending checks to all the local sex offenders you can check out online.  I’ll miss what looks like some cool fights, but I’ll feel good about it.

A Safer World for Women

June 2nd, 2007 by Connor

OK, today I want to take some time to promote a great website:  www.womansavers.com  This site is set up to help warn women about abusive or cheating men so that they don’t get hurt.  All in all, a very noble goal.  It would be possible to have a reciprocal site for abusive women, but the fact of the matter is that this is very seldom reported because men feel emasculated in admitting they couldn’t handle a woman.  But I’m getting away from myself here. Basically, the gist of it is that a woman can register at this site and post a guy she knows or has dated to let other women know what kind of person he is.  He could get a glowing review or be raked over the coals, but it’s at least one more resource for a woman to investigate after searching a potential date on the internet.

There are drawbacks, to be sure.  A woman could be fresh from a break-up and exaggerate a guy’s faults.  Or someone could maliciously rate someone poorly as a prank.  But if it helps to reduce the amount of destructive relationships and the consequences of them, it will be worth it.

One thing that is pissing me off though is that in the messageboard section for men, there are a lot of guys who seem to think this is some kind of dating site, the prime offender being someone who’s looking for abused women in particular.  Just because a woman has been shorted by a guy in the past does not mean she wants to have it happen again.  And appealing that you’ve been in an abusive relationship and are only looking for someone who can relate smacks of so much B.S.  So if your idea of a good time is beating or cheating, just go out now and get your balls surgically removed because it’ll help out the gene pool for the rest of us and besides, you sure as shit aren’t a real man.
